Finish the Job????

I have pondered this question, :hmm: and wonder if this can be done.....

Lets say you only have one torp left and you put it into a C3. I for one have never been able to sink a large freighter with one torp. Here is the question...

Is it possible to note the location of the damaged ship. Return to base, any base and rearm, return to the area and finish the job with another torp? Would be sweet if we could do it.

i'm pretty certain that once you 'reload' the game when returning from port it's going to be impossible to find it.

in fact, I'll be surprised if you damage something, and return to it in same patrol 1 day later and it'll be there still.

I usually do't risk and and if I have 1 torpedo left I sink some smaller merchant or tanker if lucky. I don't go for C2 with one torpedo - for sure.

if you have a heavy flak or a deck gun you can use them

Yeah, I don't go after large ships anymore when I only have 1 torp. I learned the hard way. But have ya ever noticed how many targets become available after you have used your last torp? Always seems to become a target rich enviroment when your unarmed.

I tried that once, to come back to a ship I had damaged and was dead in the water. It was on the same patrol, but was bad weather. Hoped that once the weather broke, I could go back and finish her off, but she was gone.

Keep your last torp for a DD. I love to see them desintegrate with a well placed shot right under the keel...

i alway keep one torp when heading back, especially during the later years.

I have been lucky enough to sink a C3 with a single torpedo.
Trigger set to Magnetic, torp detonated under the hull. Does more damage that way. Ship sank on the single shot.

or line up at 90degrees AoB and hit the dirty B in the fuel/engines, impact..

I was returning from my latest patrol with one torp left, and in my stern tube at that, when I stumbled upon one of the new "large cargo" ships at about 11,600 tons. I knew I wasn't likely to get her with my one torp if I fired it first, so I surfaced and attacked with my deck gun (fortunately the weather was still borderline tolerable - 7m/s winds). I figured I wouldn't be able to sink such a large ship with my little 88, but I was hoping I could at least slow her down and maybe bring her to a halt, so I would have a real easy shot at her with my last torp.

Sure enough, after firing about 70-80 shells (all my AP and all my remaining HE) into her bridge and waterline/engine/boiler room areas (minus the 30-35% or so of wild misses, I guess due to the relatively rough seas), I finally managed to get her dead in the water and listing slightly to port. Then I was able to line up a real easy stern shot from about 600m - broke her in half and sent her to the bottom - a sweet way to finish off my best patrol so far this career - sure made me glad I had saved that last torp for the return trip :)

Once out of contact with a crippled ship, and after a certain period of time, that ship will disappear.

I believe that alotted time period is 12 hours. :hmm:

Hope it helps
