Where to find passenger liners?
I've had this game for quite a while now (just shortly after patch 1.2 was released). I have never seen a stinkin passenger liner. Where do you find them? I have literally been over the entire ocean. It's like they are avoiding me... :dead:
|
I just saw one in a 20 ship convoy near AM52. I would have
loved to sink it but it was an American ship and during July, 1940 they are still neutral.... JIM |
Are you using a mod like the improved convoys one?
|
I use only patch 1.4b and the older RUB 1.41
I don't want to make any big changes till I start another campaign..... JIM |
I sunk a few loners off the Western tip of Ireland. Somewhere in early 1943. Those were lucky encounters 'cause they were tilting full speed (25+ knts).
I managed to spot one inside a convoy in '42. I was unable to get a hit on it because the convoy was defended by 8 dd's that kept harassing me. My game is an almost clean 1.4 install with only some minor graphic tweeks.... A while ago when I had world mod 2 installed, I turned the Western Approaches into a graveyard for passenger liners: too much of them! Although I have been lucky enough to have found some passenger liners, I have never spotted a juicy Task Force.... :damn: I guess luck is a big factor in this fine game! |
Syxx killer,
I only saw your signature just now......... Do I sense some frustration there? |

Don't know if RUB changes the Standard shipping lanes. But the "Standard" Passenger Liner lanes run from the middle of BC77 to the middle of BE36. There is actually 2 lanes that run side by side about 30 KM apart.

I just found one in my last patrol :P
|
someone mentioned that if you draw a line from liverpool to new york you'll find them on the southerly side of the line.

don't sink all the liners, I want to sink one also:)

You can find a lots and lots of them in large convoys before 1942. They all cruise under american flags, so are simply untouchable. As the 1942 arrives, they almost disappear and are a lot harder to see, but you can still find them in a big convoys, where they are easy prey.
You also have a slim chance to find them standalone in their cruise across atlantic. But they tend to go 20knt or better and chance of succesful intercept is low. But if you already find one, try to get yourself noticed ASAP. They slow down and start evasive maenuvres, which makes them easier to intercept. They make a BIG target, and are not very durable, which makes them easy to sink. Example: Passenger liner spotted! http://willow.iie.uz.zgora.pl/~fishman/SH31.jpg Fast running and going away... http://willow.iie.uz.zgora.pl/~fishman/SH32.jpg But after a few cannon shells nearby it slows down and lets me fire torpedoes uder it's keel. Liner almost avoids them, but one detonates under the bow, slowing it down. I keep running at flank ahead, nailing it with shells, when suddenly realising, than running full speed straight at a target of a size of passenger liner might not be the best idea ;) Back emergency! http://willow.iie.uz.zgora.pl/~fishman/SH33.jpg Finally after a few shots more it goes down nicely! http://willow.iie.uz.zgora.pl/~fishman/SH34.jpg |
Hello Fishmachine, nice screenshots! But on witch button you push to make them? And where can I find them back?
