Historical Accuracy in SH3

No. I said historical, not hysterical. I always knew that major
events like countries falling changed the bases but never knew
just how far the game took other lesser events dealing with
aircraft & shipping. In all my patrols, coming within 200 km from
an enemy base in good weather (daylight) meant I would see
patroling aircraft (always). Well, for the last 2 days, I am well
within 100 km of Scapa Flow (partly cloudy, calm seas & daylight)
but have not seen plane 1 ??? I have also not had any ship
contacts for the last 36 hours running north & east of SF ???
Can't understand it, NEVER happened before, so I went into my
WW2 day by day history book and looked up the May 27 & 28.
1940 events. And I found "DUNKIRK" Most all ships & planes
have been dirverted to "Operation Dynamo". Could the game
be reflecting this event ??? If I were down in AN79 or AN87.
would I see dozens of ships & aircraft ??? I would like to think
this was the case & not just random coincidence. Anyone have
any thoughts or experiences along those lines ???

Nah.

So far as I am aware, no historical events are modelled or considered except in the single player missions. There are ships which make the rounds through several ports and task forces which have defined routes, but other than the war getting worse and worse for the U-boat captain as the war went on, nothing changes like that that I'm aware.

Jim,

you could do a small test mission around those other grids and dates at Dunkirk and see if it is populated as your book says.

Hi,

After work a lot with the SCR layer (and deep looks in LND and RND layer) to make the harbour traffic I may say that none operations are in the stock game. In the HT mod we have the Bismarck and Tirptiz operations; the Ops mod (RUB 1.43) have a few other operations and in the old World mod also the DDAY are slightly implemented. But after notice all these features I can also say that these operations are better fitted to a single mission stuff because in the campaign mode is very hard to the player stay in the correct place and in the correct hour when these events occur...

Is this Q about SHII or SHIII ?

Takeda Shingen 08-24-05 10:02 AM

Since he is describing features that are featured in SH3, not SH2, I assume he is talking about SH3. 'SH2' was most likely a typo, but you probably knew that already.

Yep, but with those PA-team-members you never know.

They have SHII code inside their retina. :D

The ops mod (in Rub) have done things like this apparently - but since there's no thread or readme detailing what exact changes they made, I couldn't be sure.

Drebbel, it was a typo on my part and, yes, SH2 seems to be
what my fingers want to type most of the time but time will
eventually correct that....

PS, Drebbel, if you could change it to 3, not 2 in the title
I would appreciate it...

Gizzmoe 08-24-05 01:23 PM

Changed! :)

FAdmiral 08-24-05 01:23 PM

CB, actually I only use the RUB in the campaign version of SH3.
My other version I use for single or MP, I don't use it as of yet.
