Silent Hunter, Performance and services
How to improve Silent Hunter performance within the current PC configuration:
Download FS Autostart here: http://www.kensalter.com/fsautostart/index.htm FSAutoStart gives the user the ability to automatically shutdown services and programs to provide as much resources to running today's most demanding games and applications. It also provides the ability to launch selected programs after the selected application is launched. Lastly, it can automatically restart those programs and services previously shutdown, thus bringing the computer back to its original state. It also adds performance enhancing options like Defragment Memory. FSAutoStart was originally written for users of Microsoft Flight Simulator, but is flexible enough to handle any game or other demanding application that needs as much computer power as possible. Processes: You will need to decide which services you wish to stop. The help window of the program provides recommendations, and the FAQ also has information. Another great site for information about services is BlackViper.com. (site not up right now) This should improve :sunny: Good luck Rob Holland&Holland de Vries |
Of course use the poll option after testing you smart captains...

That´s an amazing little program, I´ve always wanted to have something like this!!!
|
Yup it's great. Developped because of the fact that Microsoft Flightsimulator is a real resource hog. But if it's usable for MSFS so will it be for SH3 I guess.... :D
|
Umm.. I tried this, and when SH3 started to the menu, neither my mouse nor keyboard responded, so I had to reset the PC. Any tips? Have you used this yourself with SH3?
Edit: Btw, I'm also using EndItAll, and I suspect this works much in the same way as that, only that it starts the closed processes again after running a game/app? |
The big difference between EndItAll and FSAutostart is that the latter can also stop services (like anti virus).
I´ve tried FSAutostart with SH3, it works. |
Another nice little program I used before was Ram Booster. got it from PC magazine website, free download. monitors your ram usage, lets your clear up some ram as well as has an alarm if your ram gets low.
Rambooster |
I'm also using a RAM free-up program, but only after running a game and before running another game. These programs should not be running while playing games, as they tend to slow down the system.
|
FSAutostart is about managing backgroundprocesses which use a lot of processing/ram power. It also some great features as reducing prefetch, force Idle Tasks to execute and defragging RAM. It can make several profiles for different games or different setups for the same game...
|
I just go into Task manager and shut down all the non system stuff, :hmm:
|
Just a quick quick question. This FSAUTOSTART thingy won't hurt my current career will it?

It's a hell old thread, but it helped me again, as I forgot the name od the programme, but remembered where to look for it. :)
So, folks with weak machines, you should start using FS AutoStart right now. :) |
Is Fs auto start associated with fsscreen?
Fsscreen is a hell of a good little program for screenies. |
