Largest number of ships in a single convoy?

What was yours? I just intercepted a 14-ship (plus two destroyers and a corvette ) large force south of Isle of Man (middle/late July 1940). Because of a bad position, I only sunk a T3 and damaged a C2 severely (I WANT THOSE POINTS), as well as light damages on other ships.

Most of the convoy's I've seen run a 4x4 patern, 16 ships, with 2 or 3 escorts (if there are any at all, occasionally there are no escorts).

I've seen a few smaller ones, never seen any larger. I'd be curious to know if there are bigger ones?

Same here. Nothing better than 16 ships plus escorts.

Later in the war, you will see conwoys with 6 coloumns and 5 ships in each one, so around 30 cargo ships. Conwoys this size are usualy escorted from 4-8 escorts, and mostly two of them are Black Swan frigates.

with improved convoy mod, i saw a 6row convoy, with 25+ ships not including escorts.

Wow, I'll be watching for those. I've seen the frigates in a past life, (lol career), but never seen a convoy larger than the 4x4. Thanks for sharing that. :)

Most of the convoys are 4 lanes of 4 ships plus escorts. I have run into a 3 lane convoy of 4 ships per lane.

My last patrol (April 42) I ran into a 5 lane of 4 ships per lane plus 3 DDs (a Tribal and 2 V&Ws) and 1 Flower Corvette as escorts. She had 2-T3 Tankers in lane 3, 2 Troop transports in lane 2 and 2 C3 Cargos in lane 4. I hit both T-3s with 2 torps each under the stacks and they both went to the bottom. Sailed into the convoy and caught a Troop Transport with my aft tubes and put her down. Then went deep and silent and headed North to the other side of the convoy. At about 8 Km out I turned and paralled the convoy to reload and get ahead of them for another shot at the C-3s and that last Troop Transport.

When I get ahead of them the weather gets nasty Wind 15 meters a second, Heavy Rain and Heavy Fog. Visability is down to 300-400 meters. I know by their course they have to turn SSE to get into the channel, I misjudge my position and I get their contact 10 KM further south and with the weather, plus I'm low on eels and don't want to waste any I let them go on their way. They'er just a little lighter by 30,570+ Tons, not a bad average of 5,095 Tons per eel.

I meant to include "More" as an alternative, but I did it all wrong.
Could someone modify the patterns of these convoys? Surely, they didn't travel in such columns?

Yep.

In late war you may see a convoy as large as 45 ships, 9 columns wide.

You'll see around five to eigtht escorts with that.

Slower machines, like mine, will lag on the nav map at TC higher than 64x with that many ships. It sucks, but what can you do?
