abandon ship?

Is there an option to abandon ship? I could not find one anywhere, but there is lots of stuff that is not documented so I thought I would ask. Thanks! Joe S

To my knowledge there is not...our u-boats are truly iron coffins, once you get in you're not getting out until you dock.

Duli 07-27-05 02:24 PM

No, like Carcassonne said, it is not possible to abandon our U-Boot.

Shame really. Even SHI had that feature.

We should be able to blow to the surface, and either scuttle the boat and abandon ship, or even surrender. Then a couple of images or movies showing you and your surviving crew being rescued by a destroyer, and finally behind barbed wire in a prison camp.

Would add greatly to the immersion, wouldn't it?

Not for me. I'm a captain. I go where my boat goes. :p

Abandon ship

In the virtual world, allright!
Are you as brave in the real world too, or would you jump in the water with your life jacket on?
:D

I was in my type XXI in 1945 getting pounded by destroyers with DC's. I was being stupid and trying to dogfight with them instead of going deep and getting away. Well, my boat was almost sunk and I had a LOT of flooding, so I blew ballast. Instead of waiting for my boat to be destroyed, out of frustration I hit the escape key and clicked on "Exit Patrol". A screen came up asking if I was sure I wished to "Surrender the boat." Sure enough, I clicked on yes and it stated that I surrendered the boat and was captured! Was this because there were destroyers in my close proximity? Maybe because of the amount of damage I had? It is the first time I tried it...is this a new development with 1.4b? I'll try to do it again and post a pic.

Further revelations led us to discover it's for Single Missions only, not Campaign missions.

Yep, I have been offered to surrender as well. Think it was in one of the first versions

If you sink with the boat, you get the greatest immersion of all.

A POW captain is more trouble to the enemy than a dead captain. :yep:

This box-in-box stuff is starting to look like Modern art -- where's Piet Mondrian when you need him?
