Way off topic....

I'm sure this'll be moved, but I wanted more than a few views and as many responses as possible...

My CRT is on the fritz -- started flickering. Consequently, I'm thinking of getting a LCD screen, and wanted your opinions. I'm thinking either a ViewSonic 191b or a Samsung SyncMaster 193P. Any ideas? Any other contenders? Thanks.

Make sure the most important factor for an LCD is considered. The response time or MS. It is often 25MS and that will have trails on moving objects. 16Ms is the minimum but 12 is better and 8MS is recommended. Few will have that. Also, the bigger the LCD the lower that number needs to be.
Remember, the LCD size is actually bigger than a CRT.
A 17inch LCD is actually the same viewing of a 19" CRT, no kidding!!!
A 19" LCD would be about a 20.5" CRT.
The response time is the key. I would insist on 12MS for a 17" and 8MS for a 19". Just my experience.
For faster moving things like combat flight sims even that may not be good enough. 8MS on a 17” and don’t know if a 4MS is out yet

The lower the response time the merrier, also some of these monitors have native resolutions which they perfer to be in.

I'm not sure if they are still on the market but try and find the NEC 1765.

And I quote from amazon:
The NEC LCD1765 17-inch TFT active matrix LCD monitor combines strong performance features with a slim, attractive design. A 0.264 mm dot pitch, 400:1 contrast ratio, 225 nits of brightness, and a recommended screen resolution of 1,280 x 1,024 result in crisp and clear images in nearly any setting

Currently it looks like Amazon is fresh out. I got mine at Best Buy and I know for a fact that Comp USA carries these as well.

I've had mine for over a year now and can only think of good things to say about it. Well worth the money, as it is in my opinion, the best looking LCD out there.

It's got to be:
BIG
FAST (RT)
GOOD RESOLUTION

I'd strongly reccomend SONY.

Be carefull though, a nice machine cost a s4it load of money... But in the long term...
