Favorite WWII Sub Movie
Was just curious to see what you guys fav WW2 sub movie is.
Well mine undoubltably would be dasboot. If its other then the ones i got listed please share it with the rest of us :) |
I picked Run Silent, Run Deep, for reasons other than it's greatness. Sure, by todays standards, it's a bit old and tired. Wasn't really very accurate either. But, see, I've watched that movie a hundred times. (Probably more). Grew up with it, I did. I'm sure a lot of others feel the same way.
Hard not to associate all those years it gave me pleasure when I vote, you know? So there's my vote. :) edit: Yay! Finally got rid of that $&*#*$ Medic avatar. |
Gah, Das Boot is my favorite war movie of all time, forget sub...
I'll never get enough of it  |

But you just cant bring out the realism like u can with dasboot, and i think thats my fav warmovie. Band of brothers runs a close second |
IMO, U-571 is a farce of a movie, way too many things wrong with it. Sure its entertaining, but for me personally as a historian, its one jagged pill to swallow.

Das Boot.... but fav. sub movie of all time is by far Hunt for Red... "be carefull what you shoot at Ryan, some things dont react to well to bullets!"
"russian capt. dont take a dump without a plan son." love that movie :arrgh!: |
When it comes to uboats: It's definitely "Das Boot". I also quite liked "The Enemy Below.", but they built a very poor uboat interior in that movie.
When it comes to modern subs there's no way around "Hunt for Red October" for me In addition I personally love "Operation Pettycoat" It's simply hilarious although it has little to no realistic aspect. "We sunk a truck! Let's get the hell out of here!" :rotfl: |
Das Boot is the best in my opinion.
|
u left out 2 movies
U-boat (In enemy hands)[2004] and LORELEI - Witch of the pacific [2005] havent seen Lorelei yet, doubt it'll come here (Norway).. anyways, until i see Lorelei, Das Boot is my favorite |

'Down Periscope' features a WW2 sub as well :ping:

I haven't seen the third alternative, so I voted Das Boot.
By the way, I recently ordered a copy of the original, full length version of Das Boot. That was awesome! I couldn't understand it lasted for almost 5 hours. It seemed like 2 hours tops! So anyone not seen that version yet - go get it! |
Here's my list, can't pick a favorite since I like something different about each one (Das Boot is my favorite U-boat movie though)
Das Boot Operation Pacific (typical John Wayne movie, but I love it) Operation Petticoat (hilarious, based on several actual events) Run Silent, Run Deep Destination Tokyo is pretty good, too. |
