'43 FlakWagen SuperSub
Well, the Sub Roster for Single Missions was gettin' a bit stale for my tastes... so I juiced up the '43 IXB a bit by doing some creative editing of the Basic.cfg file... now, it's a Super Sub... :rotfl:
Here is the complete edited text for the '1943 IXB' section of the Basic.cfg file: Quote:
It's really quite good.. so, if you want to test drive the FlakWagen, then just comment out all of your current configuration text by putting the ';' in front of each line, then insert the modified text... That way, if you don't like it, you can just delete the modified text, remove the ';'s' and you will still have your original configuration text... Oh, and be sure to make a back up copy of your basic.cfg file too before making any changes... Now, I made this FlakWagen configuration only for Single Missions.. and that's all I use it for.. my campaign boat is a VIIB... Known issues: It might screw up your campaign boat if you're already using a IXB, so be very careful... the Message box might say that 'Sonar set is destroyed' when the Mission initializes, but I don't think so cause the 'Sende' button still works.. the Snorkel has some minor clipping with the VIIC/4 tower on the Starboard side... the Stern Radio wires are bent in the wrong place (nothing new about that)... on the Weapon Status screen, only 3 units of 1000 rounds of 20mm ammo are shown, but, you do have more ammo than that... also, the Flak Gun pictures are screwed up at the top of the Weapon Status Screen (2 pictures are shown for the XXI dual flak guns instead of Quad guns) and the Deck Gun is identifed as a Quad 20mm flakgun... on the F7 screen, all 3 Flakguns appear, but the DeckGun is not visually shown on the Sub image... however, I believe that the Deck Gun damage zone does still exist (cause you can man the deck gun on the surface)... Ok, now go have some fun with the FlakWagen... it's a blast... Cordialement, Duke of Earl |
post a pic of it! :)

Relentless, Unrealistic? AC attacks
Gents:
Ok... it is early 43... and yes I cheated and mod'ed the cunning tower/aa emplacements.... I had the 2x quad, 1x 37 flak tower.... I was hit by three waives of PBY s.... a total of three the first waive... at night... 4 the next and the last was 6!...... we shot down all and I think the last one either got a lucky hit in the aft deck or crashed into my deck.... I went down... and .. oh ya.. I am going to cheat like .... and come back with the super sub... with the snorkel and fast charge.... Just joking but....anyone know how to mod to the newer fuel type with the O2 mixed in with the fuel. (Walter turbo?)... ok.. so it is a bit modern..... and unrealistic.... but how realistic is 12 PBY s hittting me in one small spot off of the North coast of Spain?? :<) This many PBy sorties can not be possible? If so...poor submariner... brave as hell as they never were short volunteers.... knowing the incredible odds!.... either we must stay submerged for the most part would the snorkle help? |
Ok... here's some photos...
A few minor display issues here... but, the Deck Gun is definitely there... http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/7...kwagen18dk.jpg Flak Class of '43... http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/3...kwagen24ty.jpg I wish the Quads WERE independantly targetable... http://img322.imageshack.us/img322/3...kwagen33bu.jpg We got your back... http://img305.imageshack.us/img305/3...kwagen46zu.jpg Not only can we shoot down jabos.. but we can barbecue brat's at the same time with the FuMO... http://img305.imageshack.us/img305/2...kwagen54go.jpg Somehow, the appearance of the Snorkel molded into the Tower looks better... http://img308.imageshack.us/img308/8...kwagen66pm.jpg After exterminating 8 Elco's in JuJu's 'Elco Preview' mission, I've still got plenty of ammo left over... also, some minor visual issues at the top... http://img308.imageshack.us/img308/8...kwagen70am.jpg Minor visual clipping issue between the Snorkel and Starboard side of the Tower... I can live with it.. http://img311.imageshack.us/img311/1...kwagen89ir.jpg Cordialement, Duke of Earl |
I must say thats one badass looking boat!

Hmmmmm... :hmm: .... 40mm Pom-Poms from a DD sure would be nice... where's my Supply Officer?... :rotfl:
By the way, I forgot the Chin Hydrophone Array photo's.. but, I'd have to shoot ya' if you did see 'em anyhow.. Cordialement, Duke of Earl |
How about a rear Cannon too!
|
Well, I did think about also puttin the 37mm on the aft deck... but, I think that real estate is already taken by the rear-most 20mm quad... could be a possiblity though...

Has anyone figured out how to have your flak gunners target enemy warships? It would be nice to have those flak guns laying down suppressing fire on a Corvette while you smoke it with that deck gun.
I wasn't able to do it............ Fritz |
Very nice indeed.
BTW - what mod are you using for the menu bar? I'm liking the easy to read dials and the officer buttons. I found a transparent mod, but that doesn't have the clear dials and buttons like the one in your screenshot. http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/7...kwagen18dk.jpg |
@mrFritz44... I believe that the AI won't shoot at surface targets with Flak because that's hard-coded.. what I do is shoot a Quad till it's empty, then I use the T - G - F keys to jump to the next Quad while the other reloads.. it works pretty good..
@alphabeta... the Officer Station button mod and the Dials button mod I got from either the SubSim download zone or U-boot.RealSimulation.com... also, there's a Mods Sticky at the beginning of this Forum with a lot of mod thread links, but it might be a little out of date... When all 3 Quads open up on the leading Swordfish in a formation.. it's murder.. the next Swordfish gets a little bit closer, then he's a midair fireball too... gives me more time to enjoy the Hollywood mod.. :rotfl: Cordialement, Duke of Earl |
