Akula Towed array

I have been driving the Akula 1 971U. What an upgrade from the Kilo.

I love the towed array. Can detect out to 60km! The sonar station is great. I hope the Kilo's Broadband gets fixed in the patch so it works as realistically as the Akulas :yep:

My question is: can the towed array be damaged? I see in the manual that it can't snap at flank speeds,

can it foul the prop or something? :hmm:

just wondering cause if not, why ever retract it?

I've lost it at flank speed and during E-Blows so it can be lost.

under extreme movments only ie tlam's E blow or reversing

buit why do you need it i do just fine without it the towed array just gets in the way

Ive been doing scenarios where contacts are 50nm away. Dynamic locations, groups ect. Have to make a stealth approach.

I am never sure what will pop up, without the Towed array, I need to get within 15nm or less to ID. Towed array warns me out to 30nm

I don't know what I would do without it :nope:

Well, In some shallow water operations you will have to make do without your towed array or use it when its advantages are diminished by the environment you are in.

I still use it in shallow waters, I just don't trail it so far.

Unless, it's so shallow you are almost surfaced - then I'm more worried about losing depth while maneuvering than anything. :o
