What is this 3 minutes rule ?

I'm impatient, and have been using the 1:37 rule (half of the 3:14 rule).
Just double the result and you can get a speed reading in half the time. :)

Greetings Deamon:

the 3 min rule is to yards as the 3.25 min rule is to meters, i.e.,

distance (yds.) traversed in 3 min. / 100 = speed in knots.
distance (m.) traversed in 3.25 min. / 100 = ditto
