GWX KC BdU Radio Message — Question
Hola All,
Quick question regarding a radio message received on patrol. The message confuses me, here it is in all its short entirety:-P — — 10:45 Radio Message From: BdU To: U-53 U-99 1940/07/07 New orders as assigned: Arrive 50 miles West off Lorient. — — I’m in command of U-53, Type VIIC, 2nd Flotilla, Wilhelmshaven. Currently in grid AM29. France has fallen, and the harbours along the French Atlantic Coast are now under our control. Should I consider the above radio message as an order to sail to Lorient directly (instead of ending my patrol back in Wilh as originally ordered)? And why “U-99” on the radio message sent to me, U-53 ? Cheers, Lost |
The message is for U-99, not you. Consider it as an overheard message by your radio operator.

Thx HW3 !
All clear. Cheers, Lost |
Guys beware.
U-99 is Otto Kretschmer's boat xd |
just immersion radio message
and for different uboat |
Quote:
yeah, Silent Otto, uboat ace who inspired me with his motto: "One torpedo, one ship" |
Exaggerated news
On one occasion I received a distress message from my own boat, followed by a string of concerned messages from BdU and eventually the announcement of my loss. I sent a whole bunch of status reports, but they just got the usual responses. When I got back to port nobody said anything, which was probably for the best. I imagine someone in headquarters got sent to the Ostfront.
My wife was devastated at having to leave her new husband but fortunately for her I got killed properly in 1944. |
