whats the worst mistake you've ever made in sh3?
ive got only 20 hours, but i recently managed to pull off a port raid on that silly little island with the Lerwick port. only sank 2 ships, but it was a real stress getting out of there! now, i made a bunch of mistakes on the way back, and had to revert my saves a lot. i somehow managed to get successfully bombed, which was a first, so. what is the biggest mistake you've made in sh3?

Because of the night and heavy fog, he sometimes lost me, even at close range. Suddenly i got damaged. I had automatically the instinct to dive :haha: It was a bad idea. Because my speed was slower, and i actually become visible for the Flower Corvette, because he was using the hydrophones and also pinging me on sonar :ping: Staying surfaced during the night or heavy fog, is sometimes better then diving. I played a couple of sub simulators. And people (even myself) always think ''we are a submarine, we MUST dive'' but thats not true. Even during convoy attacks, its sometimes better to stay surfaced at long range. Being surfaced makes you more aware of the surroudings. And having fast maneuvering speed is a big advantage. You can really fire a couple of torpedoes long range. And go full speed away from the convoy. Then return back, fire some more... Diving is the last option. I only dive for routine hydro checks (searching a convoy) escape detection if i have no other choice. Or when i want to make a inside convoy attack (getting in the middle of the convoy, between the ships) Sometimes its nice to submerge to get as close to the convoy, to recognize the ships. When i have time. I get in the convoy submerged. And explore all the ships for good targets. A uboat during WW2, wasn't really a submarine as we know today. It was basically a torpedo boat that could dive. The type XXI uboat was a real submarine. Because it could operate for a long period of time under water. |
My worst mistake in SH3
Background to this story when the Steel Sharks SH3 group had 45 plus members playing a SH3 GWX Campaign with a multiplayer element players would enter their assigned patrol grids by the flotilla commander in the commander mod and sail for that grid eg AM17 other players maybe near in AM18 AM19 ect When a player found the convoy he would save his game report convoy contact on our forums follow convoy reporting convoy size number of escorts convoy heading ect. Then when all other players are in contact with same convoy the multiplayer mission is written in the location of the last player to find that convoy and at night time. But you only have 14 torpedos in a VIIB/C minus any eels you have used in your single player patrol enroute to your grid. I had to vacate my rented house due to a new boiler being fitted so moved in to a ground floor flat five miles away for five days took my laptop to enter the convoys. The owner of the flat did not mention the token meter for the electric i just paid for the use of the flat for five days on the Tuesday Around 4:15pm all electric went off. I rang flat owner she said she would have to get some more credit on electric token key but i'm not in town for 24hrs so my reply was what do i do no lighting no heating also can't cook anything can't even make a brew and food in freezer will go off also 24hrs later power was back on and she replaced the food Re My worst mistake in SH3 was when writing a new campaign in the SCR Scripted leyer of the mission editor adding convoys from 8:00am in the morning to 4:15pm and not saving my progress. Then having a power outage and lost all that work 50-60 convoys 8 hours work down the pan. So reentered all those convoys in blocks of five then saved and also backed up the campaign folder after every five convoys for peace of mind. |
Probably worst mistake ingame, is to set wrong side AOB… and to see your fish going opposite side of target :timeout:

The worst mistake was getting corrupted savegame & losing patrol progress and not knowing what is the cause and how to prevent it and I was very frustrated because of that.
Just after searching on forums I found out where to save and where not and where it is risky to make save game. Where I did mistakes and how to avoid them, so it got much better with kind of system of safe locations (for saving) and I have calmer game now. |

Being too close to the ship I just torpedoed and getting sunk when it blew up.

My 2 cents
The first time I played SHIII/ GWX3, I was so impressed with the harbor of Wilhelmhaven, I ran into a pier, killing all, 2 mimutes into my first ever patrol.

this reminds me when I was shelling troop transport at close range (so they could not return fire) and got damaged after explosion |

The problem with attacking ports isn't that the water in the harbor is shallow, it's that the water around it is too! Another major mistake of mine: Bothering to sail to New Zealand waters. Even in Fifi's excellent NYGM, which has a great campaign, there wasn't very interesting traffic there. I do think going to the Far East in general has its moments. But the trip from Penang to the Cook Strait just isn't worth your time. |

But adding plenty new interesting ships/convoys further, will overload an already heavy campaign file… But there are some ships/convoys up to Australia and NZ in the existing files :yep: :Kaleun_Salute: |
