Can't get SH3 steam edition to work at all on win11
 

Hi. I have windows 11 and I can't get it to work. Tried downloading directx9, running in compatability mode and running as administrator. How can I fix this?

Steam, Should not sell games that will not work with the newer versions of Microsoft Windows. But, It comes down to the buyer. And that's you.Ya see Democracy will not protect you,But Democracy will damn sure take your money. Because we are all capitalist. So goofy grape don't buy a game that will not play on your. New Windows 11 System. Do some research first.

In the UK Steam sell the game for about £1. Oh my god! Those greedy capitalists are milking it for a fortune!


The root of the problem is the ongoing slow death of Windows. Microsoft have huge problems due to therir status as a near monopoly mega corporation with a core product at the end of its life cycle. They have a vision of forcing us all to pay a yearly subscription and buy all our software from them.


I run the game on Linux using Wine. Which is all free. And no ads either.

This is a weird one, I just downloaded the game a couple of says ago, I have win 11, didn't have to change anything, just works.

And,he will ask you? how can i do that ? Can you give him step by step instructions on how to do that? :hmmm:

Afraid not, I run the CD version with a noCD crack on Linux. Hence the link in my reply :damn:..
...and the game is now £4.29, I guess the offer ended! It was on the brink of becoming abandonware but has pulled back again. Steam really should set up an installation script, but I doubt if anyone there really looks at the product any more.
The Steam game will run on W11 and many people have got it working, it's just Windows security keeps trying to get in the way and their "compatibility modes" are confusing and poorly documented. Which is why I hate them and I am not willing to donate £4.29 and most of my remaining sanity to sort it out!

I have the SH3 Steam version and it works fine in Windows 11. To help the OP, we would need to know what the problem is. As I recall, most failure to launch issues are caused by using a monitor that does not support the game’s native resolution, i.e. 800x600/1024x768 but there are fixes for that, either setting up a custom resolution or using a widescreen mod.

I have SH3 GWX on a seperate drive D in my case on win 10.64 bit It took me a while to get it to work. i had to download the full 9.0c dx package.It has been years.It still plays and i should just shut up.At the end of this year Win 10 support goes away. I am going to have a Bonfire. But Redneck Rampage 1and 2 and Doom the Collector's edition. Who knows.

Do a 'custom' install, and do NOT allow it to install into any "Program Files" folder. Make your own folder, such as "Games" or whatever you want, and install in that. If you have multiple Steam games, and only one viable hard drive, the situation is more complicated. Read about it in Moving a Steam Installation and Games from the Steam Support site.

On top of that, running the game in the 'modern' Windows on 'modern' hardware does require you to set the SH3.exe Properties. I'm sure there is an SH3-specific post somewhere about this, but I am more familiar with SH4. Same difference though:

as an example. Just substitute "SH3.exe" for the "SH4.exe". Some experimentation may be required. Some folks don't have to change a thing. Others have to change 2 or 3, but others have to get into the deep stuff of preventing Windows "zoom"... Change one setting, such as "Run as administrator", give the game a run, and see what it does. Then move to the next setting. :salute:
