Recent Win11 Update Affecting SH3 Install?

Background: I used S3FE to install SH3 on the D:/ drive on my Win11 machine, successfully deployed 4GB patch, h.sie, GWX, ARB wide gui, Tycho patch, and a bunch of other mods. Successfully deployed SH3Commander.

Save folder is in the usual location (folder name GWX). I have onedrive but that folder was set to be always on my computer and not on-demand.

I had a test career in 1st Flotilla using Type II boat that I recently ran successfully but decided I wanted to start a new career in a different flotilla with a Type VII. Ran SH3C, started new career, SH3 loaded, started my 1st patrol in the new career band after the last screen bar got to the the, instead of appearing inside the boat, it hangs for about 20 seconds and then just drops to the desktop - no CTD blue screen, just exits the game.

I've tried pushing synch, unlinking onedrive from my PC, copying back my backup of the save folder, and it doesn't appear to be that any of that fixed my issue.

Tried running S3FE to scan and see if it can find my installs and it can't find GWX, giving me a data mismatch error and goes into a scan loop over and over.

Only thing that has changed has been the most recent Windows update (I'm still on 23H2).

Any thoughts?

I have a similar issue. Installed Fifi's Steel Coffins on my Win-11 laptop and it loaded in minutes, ran fine and looked great. Then Win-11 updated and now it crashes to desktop right when the "Initialising" screen should appear.

Curiously, Stock SH3 runs fine as does Steel Coffins with the Black Sea only activated. The Windows event logger classifies the crash as an error 1000 event in module ntdll.dll. An Internet search for a solution has produced a rash of conflicting possible actions and no consistent explanation or likely fix. I have spent hours tweaking compatibility, memory, file integrity and graphic settings with zero results and am ready to just remove SH3 entirely.

SH4 with FOTRS-U runs flawlessly on the laptop and looks spectacular.

Steel Coffins runs perfectly on my Win-7 desktop but takes north of 20-minutes just to load, which sucks the fun out of the otherwise outstanding Mod.

I suspect in my case I may have to save a copy of the save folder outside of the Documents folder, unlink onedrive from my account, and then copy over the backed up folder and see if that does the trick.

Good Luck! I've pretty much given up on SH3 in Win-11, even if most of the community seem to have no major issues.

Note to self: ARB WideGUI suddenly decided not to play nice - not sure if there is a patch or if I'll have to explore another GUI.
