How to adjust the Renown in SH4?
 

I am a recent immigrant to SH4 from SH3. In SH3 it was quite easy to change the renown earned by adjusting the Data/Cfg/Basic file. In SH4, I see a similar file at Games/SilentHunter4Gold Edition/Data/Cfg.

HOWEVER....

Making changes to that file doesn't seem to have any effect on the game.

So my question is:

Is there a different file that I have to change to adjust the amount of Renown earned? Also, is there a location where I can change my current Renown?

adjusting renown in SH4 can be engineered by using a common text editor, such as Notepad, on one of save files, CareerTrack.upc.
the line is PlayerCurrentRenown=

there are probably any number of hacks in the MODS forum, but i have always referenced the save file.
at one time i would change renown but i no longer do that.
