Wolfpack Public Beta Status

Hi,

I was curious as to the offical status of Wolfpack.

In the current released beta version--not any closed beta, what works, what doesn't?

In other words, if I bought your game, loaded the current open beta, what is there?

Thank you,
Brenda Em

Thank you Sirjonkey,

Unfortunately, a discord server, where there could be insider builds was not what I was looking for.

I was looking for an official video that states: this is what is released (to the general public) now in version X.x. . Here's what is included. That kind of thing.

Also, what is the last official released beta, and when?

I contacted Steam directly, to try to learn what is going on with Wolfpack.

There are a lot of small game studios under Steam, what the Wolfpack team does or does not--may affect all of them.

Hi, I think you need to realise that there is a tiny dev-team. It's literally 3 or 4 chaps, who, I surmise, do it for the love of the thing, producing the very best possible team-game in the field of u-boat warfare, rather than as a purely commercial enterprise. The current open-beta has everything implemented so far working, with the current exceptions of the 4 rotor Enigma, and some outstanding issues with using the recognition manual to determine ranges.

By (crewable) Compartment:

Bow: All 3d modelling done, no physical controls operate, so currently unmanned in game.
Hydrophone: New machine with some more utility during submerged fighting.
Radio: A lot of new 3d radio related items done, with a raisable DF aerial, (no usable DF mechanisms) and other radios, ditto. This is the compartment with the most number of things that need finishing/fixing.
Control room: No material changes except voice-tubes, dive-safe panel of lights, some reworking of other 3d models.
Diesel room: Everything works now, so diesels are operable and can be tuned via flame adjustment to give boat a safe 18.3 knots+.
Emotor room, Everything works, except the "creep mode" switch.

Your best bet would be to find the SUBSIM youtube channel, then watch the WP related training films, to get a guide to everything in detail.

Again, my understanding is outstanding issues will be addressed, but at the moment the chief effort is to rewrite core code which is now outdated, and making the release of new code difficult - as was experienced in when the working engines were initially released on the (previous) beta version. Make no mistake, the game is popular, played a fair bit - I play up to 5, 3hour games a week - and there are a number of good discord servers for various flotillas, in most time-zones. It is most certainly worth the modest cost of the game, even now. You just have to be very patient with the Devs, as it's a tiny group. Again, as I understand it!

Well, taking your word as what is there, I bought the game, though....

So, I don't see any .26 beta.

The engines and electrics appear to be there, BUT as-shown in the tutorials, the engines and electrics only appear to operate with the telegraph controls.

* I cannot change anything on the engines.

* I cannot seem to work the electrics parallel/series switches.

* I cannot work the vent/exhaust sea..valves. The handles do not flip down, nor turn. I don't understand this, I have seen a video of a sub sunk from not setting these.

I don't want to disparage the game if it's user error.
Any help would be appreciative. (Thank you)

Right-click on your game in your steam library and go to properties and betas.
make sure you have selected to use the beta-beta

once in the beta beta. you can not manually operate the engines unless:

- you have disabled automatic engines
or
- enabled automatic engines but have a player assigned a s chief engineer

I hope this helps

the latest public beta is 0.26 and yes, as shown above, you have to opt in BETA in the game properties in STEAM to access it. If tou look at the changelog, you can see what it includes.

Now I think part of the confusion come from the fact that the training videos, like for the electric engines is for a later build than is currently available or it was when I took the test last year.

I wonder if 2025 will bring a functioning update. Apparently 2024 did not?
