Can't identify this Allied warship from WW2...

I would like to identify the ship at the beginning of this film:

It seems to me that it's a British design. Probably a J-K&N-class destroyer, but the A and X gun houses seem very blocky (square) (whereas the B gun house seems to be the one normally carried by a J-class DD) as on an I-class or E&F-class destroyer. Or maybe the A gunhouse has been rotated 90°?

What do you think?

your quest is going to be difficult to accomplish simply because the film clip does not show enough of the ship from abeam AND because films, like this, that were produced by the USN during the war, were notorious for splicing film clips from cameras on different ships, just like a hollywood movie editor would do.

my SWAG's would be, in no particular order, Gridley Class, Farragut Class, Gleaves Class, or Rudderow Class. The shadows in effect when the film was produced make it nigh impossible to make out distinguishing features.

like i said above, it's tough to identify without a beam photo.

In fact, I'm pretty sure she is a British "modern" single-funnel destroyer (from J to Z class). But I can't figure out what the main guns are.

Maybe an O&P-class with a main gun armament of four 45-calibre 4.7-inch Mark IX guns in single mounts?

As she has a tripod mast and not a pylon mast, she could be HMS Oribi (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Oribi_(G66)) or HMS Onslaught (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Onslaught_(G04))... But Oribi has a kind of "tower" in place of the searchlight (in the middle of the ship) and no aft mast, so this is probably HMS Onslaught.
