Torpedo question

This is probably answered somewhere but it should be a quick answer. The starting sub in the school missions is in 1942, I think. And the torpedoes loaded are MK 14. Are these "corrected" MK 14s? As in without the severe problems the real MK 14s had in 1942.

not sure as it may depend on the version of SH4 you are playing.
locate sh4.exe, rt click and select properties, then click on the details tab.
post what you see in one of the version fields.

It says it is version 1.3.0.0 The other answer is that it is the version that Steam uses.

1.3.ok.
steam sells just about all versions from 1.0 to 1.5.

ok....i play version 1.5 so i'll answer your question from that POV.
the torpedoes you will have will be the version of Mk14 or Mk10 or whatever depending on the date of the single mission. for example, if your mission is early 1942, you will have the Mk10 (for s-boats) or Mk14 for everyone else with all of the warts that those fish had in early 1942, provided that you have checked the Dud torpedo option in the Gameplay area. i believe you will automatically get the deep runners and prematures but the Duds are an option.
so, if you are playing a 1944 or 1945 mission, the Mk14's will perform much more reliably.

if you intend to play some of the mega-mods, after you get your sea legs, you will need to hunt down version 1.5, aka Silent Hunter: Wolves Of The Pacific - Gold Edition.

virtually all SH4 megas are based on 1.5. it is usually on sale for $10 on Steam or Amazon, sometimes for less.

Subsim has a sales link which, if you click the link, it takes you to Amazon and IF you purchase something in that session, Subsim makes a few pennies.
totally optional.

good luck on your mission. have fun!

Now I have gone to Steam and added the DLC for the German campaign "U-boat missions". The version shows 1.5.0 now. But what difference it makes for the scenarios, I don't know.
