Possible PLAN sub mishap

Reports that a Chinese Navy (PLAN) submarine, apparently a nuclear powered Type-093 Shang Class boat, has suffered a serious accident including total loss of crew in the vicinity of the Taiwan Strait

This is currently *unconfirmed*, treat with great caution.

Aktungbby 08-21-23 09:58 PM

:hmmm:..like a certain Indian submarine....perhaps someone forgot to close the hatch?:x:cry::dead:

Jimbuna 08-22-23 03:44 AM

I somehow doubt the Chinese will be quick to confirm or otherwise.

Be on the lookout for brooms. :D

Actually it's easy to picture a USS Maine type event happening with Chyna and our dumb leaders. :(

Skybird 08-22-23 04:30 AM

The boat carries Julang-3 SLBMs with 10,000 km range minimum. I wont miss it.

I wonder why SSBs are used for patrols ( else what did it do in the Taiwan Strait? WOPRizing the nuclearisation of Taiwan? Hardly). As I understand it their job is to become nonexistant at sea and not being heard of again until the day they return to harbour. Would one use an Ohio boat to attack a frighter convoy?

Jimbuna 08-22-23 04:42 AM

It could have been on-route to a patrol area.

Speaking for myself only, but I would not transit a high value asset like this through a traffic-dense area and this close to the enemy. I would drive around widely.

Anyhow, not my business. They now have one threat less against us, when i dont cry for Iranian nuclear scientists being taken out, I will not cry over a lost Chinese ballistic missile boat.

DITTO :yep:

Like Skybird and Jim had said, it's difficult to feel anything regarding the potential loss of an asset like a loss of a Chinese Submarine. However, It's the potential radioactive contamination in that area that is most worrisome.

The damage to marine wild life and perhaps fishing is also worrisome. I wonder if the Chinese planned this ? :hmmm:

Unlkely, since they are extensively fishing there, and its also a blow to their prestige like the Lunar-25 non-landing is a blow to Russia.

Aktungbby 08-22-23 07:33 AM

Like the Russians initially claimed in the Kursk disaster, I wouldn't be unduly shocked if the chinkaderos blamed something on an American sub in their South China Sea.:hmmm:

Oh but it did land....just not like it was expected or intended to :)

Catfish 08-22-23 01:27 PM

Every landing you can walk away from is a good landing, oh wait ..

Sounds like a K-19 thing. How many years before We got the truth about the Widow Maker?
