Snorkel?

One feature I really liked about SH4 was the snorkel. It allowed you to run your diesel engines with the majority of your sub submerged. This also allowed for quicker diving when aircraft/ ships were spotted, charging of batteries, O2 resupply, etc. The downside was you moved slower and used fuel quicker.

Is there a way to implement something similar?
