I have seen Foyles war in the past, his assistant was dreamy!!! (Girl!!)
It was Exercise Tiger not Operation though. An Op is real life but an Exercise is practice. 944 US soldiers lost their lives. One of the reasons was the Germans were listening to the open 'line' chat between the LSTs. There was no radio security. 11 of the officers had actual D Day maps, and Eisenhower told his men find those officers and if I don't get all 11 maps back, D Day is cancelled. They were all found!! The RN were tasked with protection of the exercise but were out in the Channel and had been given the wrong frequencies by the Americans and did not know what was happening. |
