SH4 On Steam
I have been playing SH4 for eons from disc. But am wondering if its time to move to Steam Version as it may be more up to date but:
Q: Can I still use JSGME with the steam version??? |

ouch. on the cd booklet, closing date for some competition is 27/10/2005 30/06/07. Box says win XP. Unknown but not original, as I damaged that and bought this from Focus Multimedia. I'd guess at 2007. 1.1 comes to mind.

You could either do the Steam version, or the Ubisoft version.
https://store.ubi.com/us/game/?lang=...&source=detail both will watch the other's pricing, and they usually stay competitive with each other in that regard, sometimes going down to $3 a copy... It would be much much easier doing the Gold Edition that way, than having to attempt to apply all the updates and patches, and still having to contact Ubisoft for your U-Boat Add-On authorization every five installs... |
I bought SH4 a while back on steam, it just sits there in the library. The main query is will JSGME work with it

yeah, i'd say that you are probably due for some kind of upgrade. make the best deal you can make to get to 1.5 Uboat Missions. good luck, my friend! |
Ahhh... first post didn't say you already had Steam...
But yes, you can use JSGME, it will work fine with the Steam version. After all, the JSGME stands for "JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler". It will work with a lot of games, especially the older ones -BUT- do not put the game itself into a "Program Files" folder, still. Steam can present additional problems with its Steam Library folder paradigm. See Moving a Steam Installation and Games for some background. You have to set the path to a folder of your own making while installing Steam, if you only have one hard drive... The Steam version can usually be copied to other game folders just as easily as other version, so that you can use multiple mods while using MultiSH4 and a unique Save folder name with each. |
Kaleun - I will never never take command of a uboat. I have dozens of pages on a site dedicated to those brave sailors and also their hunters. I respect them but will NEVER sink of one my own ships, not even in a simulation. Which is why I have never passed SH4
Prop: I have a steam library file on an SSD 5TB external drive. I can put Steam SH4 in there along with JSGME. |
Update: I have SH4 now in k:/Steam Library/Common/ I opened it, it ran and - all the saves are copied from the disk ver on another drive?? Wonders what will happen if I delete the disk game???? Ran game - all loads failed. Better get the vacuum out methinks.
|
Absolutely works fine. I would uninstall the disk version completely including the SH4 folder in your documents folder which doesn't automatically get uninstalled.

"SH4 with the Uboat missions" is version 1.5 which is the version most compatible with the modsets that are discussed here. |
Roger that Kal. At present I am working on personal setting in cfg and trying to get coloured map with small anchors, the ones on mine are huge. Maybe if I steal shaders, textures etc from disk ver and drag and drop??? I might try that in a moment.
Ack Prop - I will come back to your post soonest. Edit: I have found the map I wanted, I know its only eye candy, but it suits the game far better, except, the active/inactive ports no longer show. Nav Map Make-Over v2.1 (18.17 MB) |
SH4 v1.5 is what removed the ports changing colors as time advances and they change "sides"...
|
cheers prop
