British Coastal Waters Help

So I'm doing the BCW (british coastal waters) mission and need to sink 50k tonnage (on TWOS). I just hit 51k, but my captains log still says Patrol Designated Area Incomplete. I took the BCW mission before I left, everything seemed to be working. When I go back to the main menu/exit game it shows BCW not completed either? I coulda swore I sunk all the ships in the allowed area, maybe i didnt or a glitch? Or maybe I am suppose to patrol a specific area first?

without knowing the specific mission name or number, it is impossible to answer your question.
from your description above, more than likely, you were supposed to sail to a specific patrol zone and then sink 50k in shipping. this is a SWAG on my part but i am thinking that is the use case in this situation.
only way to know for sure is to look up the mission dotMIS file and read the mission specifics.

how did you resolve the mission?

When I was at dock, I took on the British Coastal Waters mission, sink 50k tonnage off the eastern British Coast. Thats the one where it has that half red circle area off the coast that you're suppose to hunt in. The log on the map just says to sink ships in that area. But the captains log says to patrol the area. My best guess is it basically just says patrol that area even tho its a tonnage mission? Maybe one of the ships I sunk wasnt in the area? Gonna try and sink some more and see if that changes anything
