When I was about ten or eleven I made a railway carriage "simulator" out of cardboard & sticky tape - it was meant to simulate the passenger experience on a train
To this end I drew & painted the scenery for an entire trip between two imaginary stations on a very long paper roll (or 'tape') which was fixed against the carriage 'window' and drawn past by winding from one spool onto another - so that all the scenery (fields, farms, towns etc) seemed to pass by. Then at the end, all I had to do to return to the other station was rewind the tape. Boy was it realistic... well no it wasn't... not very
