Be free to take as much risk for yourself as you want - I let you. But when you start forcing others share the risk you impose on them without aksing them, I stop you. It was public highway, not closed for the event.

And for heaven'S sake - 417 km/h. Thats one third more than the landing speed of an F-104, which was legendary for its high speeds in flight and in landing. F-18s fly slower when doing their controlled crashlandings :) carriers - and miss the wire in 5-10% of attempts.

He is no hero. He is a villain, and his driving lciense shopuld be cancelled. Some people are not mentally fit to hold pets. Others are not psychologically stable enough to own firearms. And some lack a realistic sense of assessment to hold a driver's license.

I cannot argue that what was done here was not dangerous, but I also find it difficult to justify criminal charges for someone who broke no laws. There is then nothing that cannot be charged as a crime.


If authorities are so concerned about this, then impose a limit. The underlying issue here is not that this man drove his Chiron so fast, which obviously imposes a danger, even if it did not actually cause harm, but of having no speed limit in place.


In my view the law allows what he did. If that is unacceptable, then change the law.

According to German rules, which I also learned in driving school, you must ALWAYS drive at a speed appropriate to the situation around you, at all times, even in the absence of explicit traffic signs or instructions. 418 km/h is never appropriate in public spaces under any circumstances. Never. Because it does not matter at what time of day he driove and whether he knew the track or not - since it was public, anything unforseeable and any unpredicted traffic participant could have entered the situation formula anytime, anywhere.



Its a difference whether you drive 190 on an Autobahn where there are no speed limits in place (most parts have speed limits, btw, its a popular cliche that all Autobahn is unregulated, that is not true), or more than twice of that. 400+ km/h? Thats beyond good and evil. And off with his head!

Well what about 370? 290? 220?

That's the problem.

Just impose a limit. It will be arbitrary, sure, but at least it will be known.

Cake and eat it too situation here in my view. There are no speed restrictions, but there are certainly speed restrictions. I'm surprised this hadn't come up before, at what speed does it move from appropriate to inappropriate? Make that your speed limit. Leaving it as leads to exactly this.

This thread reminds me what my dads cousin once said to me-Think it was in the beginning of the 90'ies.

We talked about free speech and foreigners understanding of these high speed.

As he said to me-You from Sweden if you knew how many Swedish drives we give a fine for driving to fast.

Swedish drivers are also in top of the list when it comes to accident. in northern part of Germany.
Sad to say but foreigners can't figure out how to drive very fast and they can't figure out when it's room to do so and not to.

In his posted video he past 11 other vehicles.
All were in what We call the slow lane, or far right lane.
Road condition was dry and no fog or other visual obstructions.
He had another person in the Car as an extra set of eyes.
I would not call him an amateur driver so I don't see the problem.

That Car is not your average grocery getter! It's a highly designed and built for speed vehicle!

Next we'll have all the people driving rubber band powered Cars bitching.
Those things take 7 miles just to reach a speed limit of 45 MPH!

How was the traffics intensity at the time where he drove these 417 km/h. ?

It was viewable in my country.

Looks like the Intensity was very light- They did not pass many cars.

What I wonder is-Did the German Radio's the NDR verkehr studio send a warning to other traffic about this high speed car ?

This verkehr(Traffic) studio is one of if not the worlds most developed traffic system-It doesn't take 5 minutes from an accident occur and other cardrivers are aware of it.

Nordschleife = Mordschleife. Just qwtch how many laymen crash there becasue they thinbk n ow they can do the Schumacher, and well-booom-bang - off the track they fly. Its almost novicee drivers and big mouths, and sunday drivers completely underestimating that their oridinary car is just not equipped with suspensions, tyres and brakes that suit driving racing speeds on a race track.Drive one lap on the Nord in an irdnoarey car at race speeds, and half of the hardware will be eaten just from wear and tear.

Traffic does not matter, since he could not forsee even a single unexpected car that he expected not to be there at that time. But it snot juist cars, its also - deer. Hogs.

You can see crazies racing down the Autobahn with 220, and getting away with it. Even in traffic. And if only that the polcie cannot foloow them, gets outspeeded - or breaks off due to too high risk for olther traffic if continuin tghe pursuit.

But we talk not of 220. We talk of 417.


I end the discussion here, since I find it most absurd. If somebody does not understand why that speed is beyond discussion, then I cannot help him. To me and the vast majority of people its crystal clear. You want to do that stunt? Do it on a controlled racetrack, or an empty salt lake or something like that. Not in public space that no matter the circumstances alway remains to be unpredictable and accessivble for other humans. Or animals. The video shows that there was at leats one othe rcar on the track. How do drivers, untrained, react, if somethign suddenly blitzes past them with a speed excess of 300 km/h? Thata klone could cause a shock reflex causing them to loose control when they try to evade by reflex.
