clean install problem

A number of years ago, I purchased the SH collection on Steam. Love the game. I've been trying for the life of me...to get a clean installation of SH4. I've been spending a few days now uninstalling and reinstalling using various suggestions across the web. Every time I start up, i go to load game, and sure as heck...there is all of my previously saved games.
So...I went to steam support, deleted the files entirely from my account. As if I had never even purchased them. Went through all the standard procedures...disable cloud updating, clear history, regedit the files, add/remove...apps and system reboot etc etc. Then, I went to ubi and bought the SH4 Gold digital. Downloaded and installed into a desktop folder.
launched the game and went to load game....there it is. Same saves...as if I had never deleted it. How is this happening? Im clearly missing something. Any help or suggestions please.

Go with uninstalling the games...

then, d/l, install (default locations fine here for this... :yep:) & then run the basic cleaning option, followed up by the registry tool... of...

CCleaner, found here:

https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download

This tool, is free to download & use...

After running the cleaning & reg cleaning, close out, then restart your computer & try reinstalling your... games from Steam.

Hope this info is clear, & found to be of help... :shucks:  :yep:

Thank you. I’ll give it a try. I’m betting that I’m going to fix it on accident. Lol

That actually sounds more like a Save folder issue. The game by default installs to C:\Program Files (x86) \blah \blah \blah", with the "blah blah blah" part dependent upon whether using the Steam version or the UConnect version. Once the game is installed and run, it will create the Save folder, from which the game gets most of its data from, which is why a first-run of the game takes a while to start. By default, the game will use "C:\Users \UserName \Documents \SH" and create folders below that for its data. If you navigate into your My Documents area of Windows, and delete ~that~ SH4 folder, you will remove the last remnants of the previous installs.

If you intend on doing mods, you will want to stay away from installing the game in any Program Files folders... MM and others can expound upon that, if that's what you indicate you are wanting to do.

Thank you for the help. I was able to get what I needed to get done, but I’m only able to mod the “original” folder.
When I try to copy a vanilla version, it will not mod up. I think it’s a read-only issue. Currently, I’ve got the original game installed in c/sh4games/sh4
The first thing I did after downloading and installing it was to make a vanilla copy. I placed that into its own file on c (not program files)
Then, I made two more copy’s to their own c/sh4games/…folders. Named them respectively for each of the two mega mods I like.

I uncheck the read-only and it does it’s thing. When I go through the mod process though…nothing takes. Just the stock game.
I put fotrs onto my original download and it works beautifully.
