Problems with a mod
 

I'm attempting to use the Ricks_GWX_Rec_Man_Final mod but simply enabling it with JSGME doesn't seem to work at all which is strange

I'm not familar with that mod but check to make sure it's even installing correctly, i.e. it's structure its path is correct, all necessary folders are there, etc.
Sometimes mod makers make mistakes too. :)

Strangely enough just taking the files and putting them right into the games folders seems to work but not for every ship, only a few of them

Are you running just original GWX 3.0, or one of the more recent compilations, Onealex etc? These later setups add a lot more ships to the game I think, more than the rec manual mod you're trying to install. Maybe the reason it only works for some.
