U Boat Radar
 

Just curious because honestly, fleetboats and PTO is my area of in depth knowledge, learning more and more about U boats and Battle of the Atlantic in depth.

Did U boats not have an air search radar like the SD the US submarines had? Or if had it, did not have it until later in the war? Read about subs being surprised by aircraft on surface in 1943 and my first thought was no air search radar? I know they had METOX RWR but not the same. They did eventually get surface search radar correct?
