I wanted to wish everyone here a happy Thanksgiving. With Covid and the economic hardship everyone has had to endure, It's difficult to be thankful for this year. Hopefully, everyone here at Subsim and their families are faring this downturn well with good health.

I just finished up cooking the bird, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and pies. This way all the garbage is out and the kitchen is clean. Only thing left to do is get up tomorrow, eat, lay about, be thankful and watch the Redskins and Cowboys play while I eat desert.

When we think of Thanksgiving, we picture Pilgrims and Indians gathering together to give thanks for a bountiful harvest. But it is more than that.

In 1789 George Washington issued a proclamation setting aside Thursday, November 26th as a day of thanksgiving. Washington was concerned that this new nation, newly formed could collapse. He wanted this to be a celebration in which, "we all may unite. And to give thanks to the Almighty."

"Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be—That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks—for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country " George Washington, New York, October 3, 1789
