seriously now, to be able to utilize the current set of megamods built for SH4 you will need the Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific 1.5 Gold Edition Uboat Missions (aka 1.5 UBM).
all of the great mods such as Game Fixes Only, Real Fleet Boat, Run Silent Run Deep, Trigger Maru Overhaul, Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate and Dark Waters (ATO-German) require 1.5 UBM.
you will also need Large Array Aware (LAA) to enable up to 4 gig for SH4 to use. the megas mentioned above pretty-much require it.

lastly, the megas come with a lot of written documentation. my recommendation is to read it, first.
