Sub Upgrades
 

Hello fellow sub pilots! It is pilot, right?


Sorry, this is a two fer. Intro and question!





I'm 38, have two boys and I love music and computers. I'm a bit of a rogue and love the thrill of an actual hunt, which is probably why I love SH.


This is my first subsim. I've been playing for a couple weeks. Started with WOS. Have no idea how basic SH plays out. I read about people enjoying SH5 and that WOS was the realistic mod to have. Here I am.


I've watched some tutorials on targeting, and have made it to Oct. 3rd or 4th. Currently at my first stop in Wilhemshaven(sp), and I am curious about upgrades. Am I close to being able to add upgrades to my sub?



In particular, I'm looking for the snorkel. I'm assuming that with the snorkel I will be able to charge my batteries while below the surface. Either way though, when and how can I upgrade my sub? I've glanced through the forum but haven't really seen anything that looked like it would answer my question.

Am I still in the tutorial part of SH5?


As I mentioned, I did install WOS. I completed the first Polish mission and then made my way to Kiel. I started the mission for the British coast. Sunk quite a few merchants, didn't see any warships until my return trip(while I was out of torpedos).



I'm sitting in Wilhelmshaven, I had already received an encoded msg about my base being relocated there. Which I did enjoy decoding, but found to be a waste of time since I had already received an unencrypted message stating such.


I'm assuming that it will let me know when I'm able to upgrade items, I'm just worried I skipped something. I've already made a couple officer upgrades, just looking forward to my snorkel upgrade. Among others.

There is a point in the game where you can choose the snorkel as a upgrade....but it won't work in the game (early '44) maybe later on in the war....I don't know :hmmm:

I don't know when exactly it's available in TWoS but historically snorkel was only used on U-Boats from 1944 so I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same in TWoS.

Your first "upgrade" wont happen until after you complete the first 3 objectives.

In early to mid 1940, when Germany overruns France, and the Atlantic Air Gap mission is complete, then you'll have a chance to upgrade.

I just upgraded fro the VIIA to the VIIB and two flak positions. There is 1 or 2 minor upgrades before this. You can get the double hydrophone and twin mount anti air guns. But thats about it.
