Secret weapon behind the Spitfire – a 13-year-old north London schoolgirl

I came across this story and wanted to share it. This story is about a 13-year-old girl from north London Named Hazel Hill. Hazel Hill, was approached by her father, Capt. Fred Hill about utilizing 8 machine guns that could fire 1000 rounds per minute. Fred Hill approached his daughter as she had a " mathematical Intellect.

In the summer of 1934 Hazel and Fred Hill set about rearming the Spitfies and Hurricanes .

The Battle of Britain was fought 80 years ago to prevent a Nazi Invasion of England. It's incredible to consider the contributions of a 13 year old school girl in the defense of her country. 3000 fighter pilots fought in the air to defend against the vaunted German Luftwaffe from July 10th until October 31, 1940

Yes, she was a real inspiration in the UK's hour of need and all the recognition is rightly hers.

Good find Commander which brought to mind an old story that, I can't find now, about an RAF pilot apparently dead still flying his Spitfire over the channel chasing a German Messerschmitt and firing his guns at the same time while slumped over in the cockpit. :yep:

Thank you. I had never heard of Hazel Hill but I'm so glad I found this story. Of course, those who reside in the U.K probably already knew of this incredible lady. I remember a story where a Luftwaffe pilot escorted a fighter or bomber back to it's base rather than shoot it down. After the Luftwaffe pilot escorted the bomber ' fighter airplane home, it waggled it's wings to say goodbye before departing. Another great read is on the contributions of the " Red Tail " P-51 squadrons.
