Not submarine related, but am sure plenty of WW II submariners listened to her music on patrol. Sadly, Dame Vera Lynn has passed at 103. I first discovered her music as a boy, as my Grandfather had a bunch of records and an old style player, I enjoyed the novelty and through this, grew to appreciate a lot of the "old " music. One in particular stuck out and has remained a favorite, "We'll Meet Again". Grandpa spent time in England before went ashore at Omaha on D-Day, always loved his stories about those days. Sadly, he passed in 2019.

That's how I first knew of her. Now my music directory contains several of her recordings.

Omaha!! Jeez he had it rough, worst case scenario for an amphib landing. I do a WW2 site and love it when I get an email about their days. Personal recollections are better than any historian book any day.

I first listened to Vera Lynn back when I was (and still am) a younger skipper. I think the first song of hers I listened to was "We'll meet again". Great song and a great era of music, modern music IMHO is payback for the sins of man, just kidding :O: In my real opinion, modern music is really bad, and not like the good music it was back in the 1910s-1980s.

Oh so true. I was a teen on Merseyside in the mid 60s. Unbelievable era, great music, pirate radio stations, lovely girls in their mini skirts and had my fair share of their wonderful company, and married one (still). Today, naw, nothing even registers in my ears.:arrgh!:
