Dame Vera Lynn Dies aged 103
I had so much love and respect for her during my entire living memory.

Moira just this minute told me... what a shock and a sad sad thing
My favourite song of hers (especially considering this anniversary year) was this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzlFaY0s_QI |
Sad news. Her music is still an iconic part of WWII. May she rest in peace.
|
An iconic and quite unmistakable voice from that era, like the Andrew Sisters, the Modernaires and the sound of Glenn Miller.
|
She had quite the voice.
|
My dad, a farm boy from PEI saw Ms Lynn perform while serving in the RCAF during WW2 in London.
RIP Vera. |
The first time I heard that song was in the film Dr Strangelove, not long after Slim Pickins rides the hydrogen bomb down and the US swap nukes with Russia. This song played at the end whilst all the bombs go off basically destroying the world!! :yep:

I knew the voice and music but didn't know her name.
Rest in peace, Vera. |
I've got quite a few Vera Lynn songs in my British Music set. I didn't know she was still alive. :o
|
R.I.P Vera Lynn.
Like Reece, I heard We'll meet again, for the first time in the movie Dr. Strangelov. Markus |
