Fire aboard the French SSN La Perle
This morning a fire stated aboard the forward part of the french SSN La Perle in the port of Toulon.
Nobody was hurt and no nuclear radiation released. The fire might have been severe since a team from the firefighter from Var county and from Marseille were called to help the specialized firefighter (I think just to provide them more SCBA tank). https://www.navalnews.com/naval-news...avy-ssn-perle/ |
Not good for the french navy hopefully no one is injured

The sub maybe be totaled.
She was on drydock for her last IPER (major refit) until her retirement from the fleet in 2030 The firefighters worked for 14 hours and had to flood all the forwards section up to the conning tower with foam to extinguish the fire and the damage are so heavy that the Navy may not try to put it back on active service. http://www.opex360.com/wp-content/up...20200613-2.jpg News in French http://www.opex360.com/2020/06/13/li...-ete-maitrise/ |
Looking at it i would say given her age she is now a CTL i dont think they can financially put her back together.
It would make more sense to extend one of the lives of the other boats to make up the short fall with the incoming Suffren class |
