My father was at Juno with the Canadians in the first wave and he told me some pretty grim stories of his experiences when I was younger.

My great grandmas cousin was KIA in D-Day. His body is buried in Normandy. I do not know his name as I would have to ask my great-grandma when I see here, she is 92.

:Kaleun_Salute:A big salute to all those who answered the call and the families who honor them.

It's a shame that the usual ceremonies had to be so widely cancelled... it just hasn't felt the same today

What's even more amazing is when you consider that those that fought were just boys, 18 and up but relatively young. They were tough men and their sense of duty was just incredible. :salute:

Last year was the 75th anniversary of D-Day and we were camping in Edisto Island State Park and we went to this memorial and history thing at the USS Yorktown, a museum ship docked at Charleston harbor. They did a thing at the beginning where they had maybe 5 or 6 D-Day veterans talk about their experiences. One of them was 15 when he enlisted into the US Navy by lying about his age and stealing a birth certificate.
He had some guts to lie to the US Navy.

I agree with you here, many young men perished back then. True heroes and brave souls they were. :salute:
