Commander + GWX CTD?
 

I'm at a bit of a loss here. I installed SH3, then GWX3, then Commander, and then the cfg compatibility files for GWX and Commander, and every time I try to start a career with a profile that I made in Commander the game crashes to desktop. The game loads fine with other profiles. I even installed the 4gb patch, no difference. Everything is being run as administrator. Anyone have insight on this problem?

EDIT: upon further tests, it seems GWX is causing the CTD when I try to start a career at a later date (specifically 1942). Loads fine in 1939.

You don’t have any other mods than GWX?

No, fresh install with just GWX. I was originally using Steam, downloaded another version of the game direct from Ubisoft and have the same problem. Tried it out without any mods first, and I was able to load into a career but when I got there the game was stuck on pause and the screen was black. Both of these problems I've read about online, but nobody seems to know exactly how to fix them.

Just to be sure; you have the 1.4 patch applied to SH3 ? GWX is not causing your problem.
I'd bet it's your game download format, etc.

You have files for gwx? I'm not sure if it could ctd, but malfunction active, uses equipment I'd, that could differ between mods. Ubc uses current I'd for radars than nygm for example (I think this example doesn't do nothing, but others could) but I never have that problem.

If you installed everything correctly (not in the C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) directory) and 4Gb Patch, then you should not have such problems. Just in case, check the SH Validator.

Tried using SH Validator, I'm getting an unhandled exception error.

That sound like a win problem. You target the folder and said to no correct regedit entry?

1. Run SHValidator_v_2_0_6_0 SHValidator.exe with administrator privileges.
2. Select a SH3 game. Specify path Would you like to specify path to Silent Hunter 3 folder?
3. Agree to read from the folder.
4. Specify the installation path.
5. On the Error message "Path specified to Silent Hunter 3 (D: SHIII_GWX) doesn't match value read from registry Q. Update registry with this path (D: SHII_GWX)" answer "No".
6. Select the language En or De. Verification should begin.
7. Save the log-file. This will help you figure it out in detail.

Edit: successfully playing a career starting from August 1, 1939, hopefully I'll be able to transfer to the flotilla I initially wanted eventually.
