Frigate Tactics (for dummies!)
G'day guys,
I'm trying to teach myself the Perry - and set up a 'head to head' 'early 80s' encounter - one Perry against two Chinese Jianghu I frigates. I noticed that the Standard Missiles had no effect (always beaten by chaff) - but the Harpoon was very effective (a one missile kill), the Seahawk's Penguins were effective too (two missiles for a kill). The CIWS was effective in destroying their 'barrage' of ASMs - but the Jianghu had a longer gun range than the Perry when it closed (and actually did 27% damage on me) Just wanted to ask - what are your preferred frigate v frigate(s) tactics? * Get both helos on ASuW Alert 30 straight away? * Stay out of their Gun range? * Let CIWS handle ASMs only? * Pack a few more Harpoons than the usual 2-4 (to therefore not rely on the Standard Missile to damage ships)? Thanks guys - dumb questions I know ;) Stew |
FFG O.H.Perry is not designed for ASuW. It's typical ASW frigate with limited ASuW capability.
In Vanilla Perry is more powerful because use SM-2 missiles (instead SM-1), better radar and bugged FCR's allowed to launch more missiles than weapon channels. Conclusion: If you wanna realistic Perry - install RA mod Btw: Perry maximum number of Harpoons is 4 For attacking enemy ships you should do this from different directions at the same time with using 3-6 missiles (best mix SM-1, Harpoons and Penquins) For hiting target by 2 or more Harpoons in the same time you should use waypoints. For example for 2 harpoons first one should have +/- 8kyds longer way to hit than second. You can do this by placing first waypoint far on traverse. |
Thanks, as always, for your insights, P7 - I appreciate it! :Kaleun_Cheers:
