Counter culture hero Peter Fonda of Easy rider Fame passes away at 79

Peter Fonda, the two-time Oscar nominee and star of 1969's Easy Rider, died on Friday morning at the age of 79 . Peter starred in Easy Rider with Dennis Hopper.

Quote : Fonda was perhaps most well-known for his role in Easy Rider—the countercultural film that was widely hailed as a youth anthem in its day. The road movie, which he also co-wrote and produced, featured Fonda and Dennis Hopper as two motorcyclists taking a trip across the country. The film was a huge hit, capturing the drug-infused counterculture of the 1960s on film. Fonda also earned a Best Actor nomination for his performance in the 1997 film Ulee's Gold .

While mainstream critics had ignored previous counterculture films, they heaped praise upon “Easy Rider,” and the film was a significant box office hit as well with $41 million, third best for the year. In Hollywood the success of the movie on all fronts marked the beginning of a changing of the guard, with a new generation of independent-minded filmmakers ruling the business until “Jaws” changed everything in 1975

I think the last movie I saw him in was 3:10 To Yuma. One of the things I always admired was how much he looked like his dad.

I don't look like my dad ... In fact I wondered why for a long time, but you just don't ask those types of questions while they are living and now like a lot of us they have gone on to the happy hunting grounds or perhaps even the bullfighting grounds.

Well the one time I astutely noted the wedding license date of my parents and my own rather 'immediate' birthdate a semester later, possibly spurred by dad's sudden recallup for Korea in B-29's...My mom laughingly informed me 'We lied. You're a bastard!" I know now where my sense of humor comes from and when my wife calls me that(on rare occasions:03:) I realize I married mom...:k_confused:
