Allowed to Inspect Binary?

Am I allowed to inspect Ubisoft SH4 binaries with debuggers, disassemblers and similar tools?

Short answer is yes. Has been done with SH3 already in many areas.
Long answer? Legally no as per the user agreement. You would be committing a crime were you to release anything that could get you prosecuted should the issue be pressed.

Having said that? I have seen no signs in MANY years that UbiSoft gives a crap what you do or release!
It would only increase sales of a very old Game and anything that boosts that bottom line is probably free money with no expense on their part.

If you do, see if you can figure out why running high FPS, (anything more than about 30 fps) in game also causes the in-game celestial time to go out of sync when played at 1x.

I run SH4 once a day in a debugger / disassembler

x64dbg

It's quite interesting, but I'm no expert and I need to do a lot of reading on the side. Sometimes descending into the files and functions crashes the application. I'm also doing tutorials on simpler, smaller applications. I'm quite happy with the progress so far. If anyone has more experience with this I'd be glad for a few hints or pointers.

h.sie patched SH3. Does anyone know if he is still around and whether it'd be productive to talk to him? From what I gathered much of the code is simply an evolution of SH3. It should be possible to profit from SH3 concepts.

I will also see if I can find out more on the FPS issue. Other interests are the functions that govern fuel / battery / battery reload / speed and range.

Any other points of interest from others? About two years ago I first tried to do this but had to give up for real life developments. I remember others giving suggestions but don't remember the details. Please feel free to pipe up.
