Question for the Brits.
 

I am in the U.S. (actually the Confederate States of America) and watch several British tv shows (mostly serials from past years). I often hear comments about "A LEVELS" concerning a persons education. I would like to know just what an "A LEVEL" is. I would appreciate somebody explaining this for me. Thanks.

It stands for an "Advanced Level" exam pass (one of what I think used to be called the 'Schools Certificates' in my day) and were/are usually taken to qualify for entry to further education, be it college or university

Much more difficult in Germany!
You need papers and proof and verification to be allowed to do, or apply for, anything.
It is not about qualification though, but to testify your qualification for endless patience towards government agencies and being able to live through merciless boredom for decades.
