A few questions frow a newbie !
Obviously the title should say "from a newbie" rather than "frow"...
Hey there ! I'm a brand new captain here, and after my very first enthusiastic ride onto the Baltic, I feel kind of soaked (although the technical term might be "drowned", since I ended up a hundred meters below surface with major leaks and all of my subsystems dramaticaly failing one after the other). First of all, I should say I'm a complete newbie in the Wonderful Submarine World (two days ago, I did'nt even know what a bearing was). Then, I am painfuly aware that all of my questions probably already have an answer in this forum, but the great mass of information drives me completely lost and not knowing where to look (beeing french doesn't help when it comes to technical terms). So here I am, after a very first ride on SH5 and all TwoS enabled, with a bunch of questions. About the tutorials : I managed to find them through the Automation menu. From what I understand, other categories than "Tutorials" ("Real navigation", "Search"...) are a different kind of scripts : am I right, and do I need to look into them ? Or can I just ignore them ? [I launched the first ones, until "Four Bearings" : the first half of this one was really interesting for a newbie like me and probably a must-know, but when it comes to the practice part, the tutorial just raises the game speed forever, waiting for something to happen. I did this by being docked at Memel (where I popped at the beggining of the campaign), and I assume this particular tutorial needs a precise context to work (me being somewhere at sometime on a price mission maybe), but I don't know where to look.] Nevermind, I think the historical mission "Four Bearings" is what I'm looking for XD For the other tutorials, their names are quite confusing. What does "TDC" means ? I keep seeing it everywhere. I guess it is related to Torpedos Something, and to "how to aime properly", which I really need to learn (I managed to sink a cargo and a warship with the only two successful shots I made, but the four others are currently enjoying their new freedom whoever knows where). Same goes of "AOB" and "RAOBF". One of the great question I had is : what do I need to do, and what can be done by the crew via orders ? For example, about the "four bearings", I did'nt find a way to ask to my hydrophone operator to read a signal at precise time intervals. All I manage to make him do is searching for any signal, then following it if he finds one. Do I need to operate the hydrophone myself (which is, I have to admit, a really frightening idea, since I don't have a clue how to do that) ? Same thing for torpedos. All I did was to come close enough to the target, align the sub bow more or less for the torpedo, launched in straight line, would hit the ship on its course (with the ridiculous success rate I mentionned above). Can I have someone on the crew "do the math" ? From caculation to firing ? Parts of it ? I just saw that I could bring up a few information about said target (and I am not even sure how I did). I think one of those tutorials will help me understand the firing part better, I just don't know which one will explain me how the f*ck that "Attak Disc" works. As I said, on the first mission that brought me to Baltic, I sank a Polish cargo then one of the two warships I spotted (with a bit of help from the German planes), then ran out of torpedos and had the brilliant idea of surfacing the sub to attack the remaining ship with my deck gun, ending up in this wonderful drowning situation. I have to ask : when it comes to gramatic problems over the sub, can I, as a captain, give some orders to save the situation ? Or will the crew do what is best (choosing what to repair, how to repair it, which wounded man to attend to – do I even have medical satff ??) I just stayed with my arms crossed, watching the reports popping one after the other, phlegmatically observing the water level raising. Oh, and last question : how do I decypher those coded messages ? When the first one popped, I was just "Oooh, what now, how am I supposed to read that"... I managed to get the enigma machine from the crew, pushed a few buttons trying to understand how it worked, but without success. So if there is some place here where I can find the proper way to operate the machine, I would be very grateful. I think this is all for now. Despite my whole crew being dead because of my reckless actions, I still am really enthusiastic about going deeper in to the Submarine World (after all, I did sank two ships, and they were actually enemies, it is better than what I hoped to achieve !) Thanks again ! |
Information overload I didn’t read through all of it, but you can click on my signature and that will bring up a lot of videos not only from silent hunter five but for silent hunter three is well which also work for five.
