SH 3 Installation windows 10
 

Hello,

I have Silenthunter 3 and trying to run it on windows 10 i have tried to use the 1.4b patch, GWX patch, etc etc but i still get an error message "this application can be run on win 95, XP etc etc....
it is a big mess, is it possible to run SH 3 on windows 10 or what am i doing wrong and what do i need to do ?

How old is your copy? If it's a newer version (2006 or later) then it is already patched to 1.4b.

I only mention this because I have a more recent copy and I just loaded it into Windows 10 with no problems at all.

Seems like an administrator or permission problem.

These are generalizations but are important in the context of installing and making sure your game is trouble free.

Do not install in the Program Files (X86) directory as this has restrictions which can affect your game.

Your game SH3.exe must not be showing read only, untick it if it is.

Make sure your SH3. exe application and any other applications you are running are set to run as administrators.

It is essential to run Windows 10 in compatibility mode for Windows 7.

Make sure your gpu is set correctly to run SH games.

You will need to install this application.

Hello Steve, How do i check the date my copy ?

The DVD you are looking for will be showing ESS632.
The Starforce Free Version will be Black at the Bottom and White at the Top.
A typical File Version showing in Properties is 8.2.160.0
Product Version 1.4.0000< latest version 1.4
Date modified 18/08/2006
Do not be misled by the silver band at the top of the DVD case that says Games in white letters which is irrelevant.

The Starforce Version will be Black at the Bottom and Silver at the Top.
These have a Product Version showing in Properties of 1.00.0000

The Berbster's advice is good.

I have a double copy, with both SH2 and SH3. At the bottom left is a large block of very (very) fine print. The first paragraph starts with System Requirements. The paragraph below it starts with Copywrite 2006.

If it's the newer copy it will say Encore somewhere on the box.

Load up the game. If it's the newer copy it will already be patched and in the lower right of the screen it will say Version 1.4.

Sounds like you have the Canadian Encore double disc version.

I will install with a DVD rom if thats what you mean. I havnt installed it yet, before installing i need to read so much becoz i have noticed there are a lot of warnings in the install process. I just have discovered there are multiple mods. I have just checked LSH some of the links are broken. for example i believe i have a star force DVD here because of the 25 digit code with no 1.4 patch. i have tried to get the no dvd fix but the link isnt correct.
i might need some one to take over here.

My post #7 will tell you what type of disc you have.

I would suggest you do a complete uninstall from the Control Panels Programs and Features.


Run a registry cleaner before re-booting your system.

Now install the game.

Put your mouse over the SH3.exe will show you which version of the game you have.


If it is Starforce protected you can use this link below to remove it.

Could be. I looked at the box with a magnifier, and it's still hard to decipher. in one place it does say www.encoreusa.com, but that site seems to be defunct, and it could have been there just to make it easier for American customers. I have no clue, and they don't make it easy.

You are correct.
The Encore version is manufactured in Canada and distributed from the USA I believe.
There are quite a few versions of SHIII out there all with different covers, produced and patched to v1.4, the most popular being by Focus.
