Well, here we go: First gene-edited babies claimed in China

Here come the superhumans.

Quote:

Many mainstream scientists think it’s too unsafe to try, and some denounced the Chinese report as human experimentation.

The researcher, He Jiankui of Shenzhen, said he altered embryos for seven couples during fertility treatments, with one pregnancy resulting thus far. He said his goal was not to cure or prevent an inherited disease, but to try to bestow a trait that few people naturally have – an ability to resist possible future infection with HIV, the AIDS virus.
Side effects? Potential downstream evolutionary branches?

Quote:

“I feel a strong responsibility that it’s not just to make a first, but also make it an example,” He told the AP. “Society will decide what to do next” in terms of allowing or forbidding such science.

Some scientists were astounded to hear of the claim and strongly condemned it.
Yay, science!

Quote:

An embryologist in He’s lab, Qin Jinzhou, “I believe this is going to help the families and their children,” He said. If it causes unwanted side effects or harm, “I would feel the same pain as they do and it’s going to be my own responsibility.”
Umm, maybe not.

Oh i expect the chinese have nothing than humane motives in mind.
Next: Blade runner. Design them with four-year-life planned obsolescence.
Side-effect: Gene-designed Super-Marines! :D

What can be done, will be done.

The social compliance point scoring system that rewards political and social correctness conformal behaviour, and sanctions not behaving according to the wanted social model role, that they recently introduced (no joke), may become obsolete in the forseeable future.

^^ yep, if you bring this to a logical end.. people designed for certain tasks, automatically inhibiting the genome death string if anyone acts out of his program, or has any genome mutation causing "free will" or thinking outside the scheme.

But the free West will protect us. Or maybe not.
When there is money in it the argument to tolerate and copy it will be like: We have to secure jobs! And away with the morale ballast.

This could be fake news because lets face it, they all look alike anyway :O:

What if there was a nuclear winter in China due to WWIII and the only few buildings left were these research labs :o

Another thought that came to mind about all of those empty cities China has built, perhaps they were built on purpose :o

Totally against it!! Playing God!! :nope:

Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.

Of course i agree. Though eliminating genome-caused diseases in time is of course not the badest of ideas.

Regarding playing god, i just thought of the drone footage of comfortably killing 'suspects' without trial or evidence along with what is called 'collateral damage' at home via PC is nothing else, imho. Phantasies of violence, only that real people die.

The problem is when technology falls into wrong hands. But then i wonder which the right hands are. I do not think that the West or especially the US would be reluctant towards anything, as soon as there is money in it. Just thinking of the weapon deals with Saudi Arabia that are more important than a reaction to Mohammed Bin Salman's torture and killing of journalist Kashoggi.

As i said, what can be done, will be done. Not that i like it.
