The “Scary Movie” of submarine cinema: Hunter Killer
Naturally, I haven't seen it and will wait for it to show up on HBO, it looks pretty terrible.

I had already feared this... :wah:
So the only thing left is "Das Boot", hopefully the filmmakers will not break that too. :hmmm: |

The Boat part II a Sky production? That does not promise anything near the first series :haha:
Private productions of that kind mostly suck. Cheap entertainment, don't let facts interfere with drama, showing the current politically correct propaganda opinion, and cheesy. I cannot remember anyone shooting a pistol in a submarine, in the second book "Die Festung". Furthermore there was almost nothing taking place in a submarine, apart from Buchheim casually mentioning that Lehmann-Willenbrock brought his boat safe to Norway, with some civilians and refugees, mostly using the snorkel. The book is about Buchheim leaving Brest and driving home to Germany through France, always on the run from allied invasion units. The film of Buchheim's book trilogy part 1 certainly had some flaws, and Bucheim was so upset that he quit advising after some time. From rivets coming lose to a fail of discipline from "Johann" under pressure, such has never happened. Still one of the better films. As usual, not much films about this special theme, so like U-571 (complete fail and concocted history) all is "welcome" :doh:. I am not content with the lies and the 'message'. I will watch Hunter Killer when it is being shown on the regular TV. |
That last teaser you put up Jim makes the film to be some sort of satanic horror film with a little u-boat action thrown in, if this is what the series is then they can shove the crap!!:hmmm:
|
^ Aye, doesn't look very promising.
|
That last 'trailer' is a montage of other upcoming shows, too. So I doubt it's satanic or whatever else was thrown in.
I'm not sure I like the idea of Das Boot following the exploits of some other party/person, seems like an attempt to appeal to a wider audience, should they bore of U-Boote, which seems to negate a chunk of what was put across in the original, experiencing life aboard a boat transiting large bodies of water, not jump-cutting to someone else ashore. I think I'm going to be rather cynical about the remake. --edit-- I saw only the trailer of Hunter Killer, I think that was more than enough to tell it was going to be very little about submarines or submariners, but instead some warped Hollywood fantasy. |
But will hunter killer be worse or better than U571?
That's a pretty low bar. As for the Boat series. From the trailers, I am not impressed nor did they make me curious about the show. |

Over the top acting, story line, cgi. Conclusion I would rather share the bathtub with reece and jim. :03: |
Steed finally comes clean...

I'm going to take my chances with the film... No amount of CGI is going to make that bathtub visual sparkle! |

The most flattering comment I found about those 2 hours and ~2 minutes better spent doing something else;
"Gary Oldman in 'Voyage to the Bottom of my Career'." |
