Running SH4 in full screen problems.

Hi all, Recently decided to re-visit SH4 after many years away from sub simming, purchased a copy of SH4 Gold (CD) and loaded up on my Alienware Laptop, it runs fine but only in windowed mode and no higher than 1920x1080, my laptop's native res is 2560x1440, if I try full screen or higher than 1920x1080 it runs the intro and then goes into a black screen. I have tried all the tweaks with CFG files and compatibility etc but to no avail, It still looks great in the lower windowed mode and runs great at maxed out graphic settings but after a few patrols squinting I don't think its doing my eyes any good! I have read many posts online and seen lots skippers running it fine in high resolution 2560x1440 etc, just wondering if anybody has experienced this with a new rig too and if there is any advice to cure it.
Many thanks.

Have you been through THEBERBSTER's post SH4 <> TUTORIALS <> HOW TO DO IT <> INFO <> DOWNLOAD LINKS -STICKY INDEX? If you have Windows10, try the ideas for the video drivers. Windows seems to have trouble with every-other update. One will be fine, the next trashes the video and / or audio. THEBERBSTER also has a link to the CapnScurvy LAA in Windows 10 thread.

Do you have Windows set to the "Native" resolution of your monitor also? Does the game still mess up when you choose that same setting in the Options menu of SH4, or is it available as a choice? You could try right-clicking on the SH4.exe file, choose "Properties" from that context menu, then click on the "Compatibility" tab. Try the "High DPI scaling" settings. In Win 7, it's a little tick box that limits scaling, while in Win10, it's a settings dialog that has a little more control over the settings...

If you keep having issues, be sure and post back with your video card (or if it is an onboard, what the chipset you have is), and what the OS is. If it's Windows 10, which build is it? How much RAM do you have? :salute:

Just a suggestion, try going into the folder where you have SH4 installed, then go Data/Movies/Intro and delete the files there. Then go and start SH4 normally, hopefully the game will start now.

Question, where is SH4 installed on your laptop?

Did you apply 4GB Patch or LAA to your sh4.exe file?

Regards.

This information is not correct. :03:

There was the 4GB patch for 64-bit systems explicitly for SH4 well before the LAA. :yep:
