While I think he is usually hopelessly overestimated, this stunt he pulled I think is brilliant. I love it. Briliant way to comment on the distortions of the art market.

Ironically the picture looked like a scissor-type silhouette (Scherenschnitt) anyway.

To my mind there's no hope for some people... the "head of contemporary art, Europe" then asserted that the shredded picture was a piece of art in itself. The Emperor can do no wrong

And right this he has revealed, I think, in a way that I can only applaude. He probably has forseen the reaction of the art crowd.

There is a German idiom: Jemanden den Kakao zu trinken geben, durch den man ihn zuvor gezogen hat. It means to make fun of somebody (jemanden durch den Kakao ziehen/to pull somebody through the kakao), and afterwards making him think it was no joke at his cost, but a serious, gallant compliment (ihm den Kakao zu trinken geben/giving him the kakao to drink). He has pulled the whole business thorugh the kakao, and afterwards made them drinking it with serious face expression. Going... going... gone!

Better a demasking of the incapable fool cannot be staged.

Banksy not a artist he's a vandal spraying his graffiti where he wants.

More likely that Sotheby knew in advance, and cooperated with Banksy.

I think the whole thing is a sham. Notice it only half shredded the painting. That's deliberate as it leaves it a sell-able item instead of a pile of confetti. They probably don't even need to replace the frame. Just crank it back up in there and collect even more money for it.

I would disagree saying he's not an artists. Yes, it's vandalism, but it's still art. compared to a lot of the painted grafitti I've seen, it's rather pleasant to look at.
