Uniden Bearcat BCT15X Scanner

Hi, All just purchased the bearcat bctx15 scanner having loads of fun with it downloaded a freeware program called free scan that allows you to programme the scanner.
Had to buy USB serial patch lead because new laptops/desktops dont have a nine-pin serial port.
For the past two days, there has been a big military exercise Spartan/Valkrie
involving lots of aircraft and elements of the royal airforce Spartan air landing battalion.
I have picked up a lot of air traffic radio communication from multiple frequencies I live just outside Darlington Northumberland.
I don't know where the exercise took place maybe in Scotland or down south but was surprised how far the scanners reach is with the standard telescopic antenna.
I also pick up Newcastle airport Approach and Tower also Teesvalley Airport and control zones Staffa, East, West, Talla, Moray, Wallasey, and Raf Leeming
when I have saved up enough pennies I will be getting a better antenna with a longer reach a Diamond D-777

Do a scan on Google for SDR radio, these are also a lot of fun, unlimited bandwidth, wide frequency range costing around $75 to $150.:yep:

Have fun!!

I would think the good communication is scrambled. ??

I have one of those scanners, was given to me, but I never was able to get it to work. I tried programming channels into it, no luck there. I may dig it out and try again.

Hi Onkel Neal do you have all the leads for the Uniden bct x15 Scanner
the black data lead that is usb at one end and the other end as the small plug that interfaces the front of the scanner on the bottom left.
You will also need the usb serial patch lead so the scanner will talk to free scan software.
free scan software is a freeware programe that makes it a lot easier to program your scanner.
the structure of programming the scanner is as follows System then Groups the Channels.

A good site for different Frequencies is Radio Reference it has frequencies for State, District, City, Town,

http://www.radioreference.com/

Freescan lets you make new systems Civil Airband Military Airband then enter different groups like different Airports/Airbases then you add new channels inside Groups these are the Frequencies for your Scanner.
Once all Systems, Groups, Channels are entered save it saves it as a CSV File in your documents
Then you connect your scanner to your pc and click on upload to scanner symbol with the blue arrow on the top of the page Menue Bar.
you can also give each system and group a quick key on the picture of the scanner you see the SO_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ each one of those
_ dashes that is where your systems will show up eg 1 2 3 4 ect then each system as different groups and you can give some of the groups the same quick key so all cival airports in your area with quick key 1 and all military airports quick key two you can have your scanner scanning 10 airports each with 10 frequencies and 10 airbases with 10 frequencies also so your scanner will scan all 200 freqencies also the scanner as a close call feature that allows your scanner to pull in any other frequencies that are active in your location like ham radio citizens band radio ect

If you don't have the lead you can still input systems groups channels manually video below

hope this Helps Ya Onkel

Just like you Onkel slowly catching up with Technology in Limeyville :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up::Kaleun_Thumbs_Up:
