Help: cannot initialize 3D engine

Have W-10 Pro and get this after installing SHIII & have Nvidia GForce 720 GT
and get Error

cannot initialize 3D engine.

Settings error or W-10?

This points to a Direct X problem or GPU settings.

You do not say whether your SH3 is a download or dvd which would be useful to know.

Problem Solving the Error > Cannot initialize 3D Engine?

You first need to run Windows 10 in compatibility mode for Windows 7.
Post #3 Installing Or Re-Installing SH3 Correctly + OS Compatibility Modes.

Run all your applications as administrators.
Post #6 Running Applications As An Administrator.

Make sure your GPU is setup correctly.
Post #7 Changing Nvidia And AMD Radeon GPU Settings

You also might need to take a look at this SH5 fix is also relevant for SH3.

I had the same error message when i tried to play with other screen resolution than 1024x768

I now play with 1024x768 screen resolution each time i want to play, and all is ok.:03:
